The Flourishing Way

A creativity Program for Helping Professionals, CARERS and LEaders.

"Reconnecting with your inner resources so you can flourish in work and life."

Do you feel like you're running on empty?

Have you lost connection with who you are beneath the various roles you play?

Are you looking for something different that actually restores and energises you?

If you’re nodding along and saying yes to these questions, then The Flourishing Way could be for you!

The Flourishing Way is a small-group creativity program to help you move from depleted to energised.

Imagine engaging with the creative, playful parts of yourself in ways that feel energising, sustainable, and aligned with who you truly are.

You finish your days having given everything. You know all the right tools and strategies; you even teach them to others. But it's not always easy to apply them to yourself. Weekends don't seem long enough to fill your cup. And somewhere along the way, you've forgotten what it feels like to do something purely for the joy of it.

Feeling drained isn't a sign of personal failure. It’s the outcome of working within systems that ask you to show up again and again, with little space for restoration.

And the deeper problem? In our efforts to push through, we've lost touch with what once made us feel alive.

We've been taught to address overwhelm by adding more. More techniques. More training. More self-care.

But exhaustion comes from losing contact with ourselves. And no amount of self-care techniques or training can replace that.

We actually need reconnection. Reconnection with the playful, curious, and imaginative parts of ourselves. The parts that energise us.

The Flourishing Way is an 8-session program that supports helping professionals to access their inner resources and energy through creativity, play, compassion, and community.

About the Program

The Flourishing Way

The Flourishing Way is an 8-session program for helpers, healers, carers, and leaders who are ready to reconnect with themselves. It’s a space to set down the weight of your work and reconnect with the creative, joyful, playful parts of you that might have gone quiet under the demands of work and life.

Through creative exploration, genuine community, contemplative and nature-based practices, you’ll experience what it feels like to be restored rather than drained.

In The Flourishing Way, you will be guided through a process of rediscovery designed to nourish you from the inside out.

Hi, I'm Emily

I'm a clinical psychologist, poet, and creator and facilitator of The Flourishing Way program.

I'm based in Naarm/Melbourne and help overwhelmed therapists, helping professionals and leaders to restore balance and joy through creative and experiential practices. My approach blends psychological principles with artistic, creative and nature-based activities.

I've had a lifelong passion for creativity, including drawing, music and creative writing. I have studied poetry and how to teach poetry through Brooklyn Poets (New York) and other organisations since 2018.

I created The Flourishing Way because, even with years of therapeutic training, supervision, and all the strategies at my fingertips, I still felt something was missing.

What finally shifted things was returning to poetry and creativity as ways of reconnecting with myself and with something bigger than myself.

Now I support other helping professionals, educators, and leaders to find their way back to their own playfulness, creative energy and inner resources.

This program is designed with you in mind if you:

  • Work in a helping or caring role, as a therapist, teacher, health professional, leader or coach.

  • Feel disconnected from the parts of you that once felt vibrant, curious, and joyful.

  • Sometimes feel intimidated by creativity. You want to explore creative expression but worry you are "not artistic enough" or don't know where to start.

  • Know you need more room, not more content.

  • Crave a space with peers who understand the unique pressures of your work without needing it explained.

  • Sense that another self-care strategy is not the answer and want something more sustainable.

  • Are aware that the profession is shifting toward culturally informed practice, and you want to be part of this evolution.

Why The Flourishing Way is Different

Most professional development, no matter how valuable the content, inadvertently adds more to your already full plate. More to think about and more to do. But The Flourishing Way is designed to restore your energy, not drain it.

Here's what sets this program apart:

  • Experiential, not Informational: You won’t just learn about creativity, you’ll practice it. Our creative, playful and nature-based activities can help you shift from overwhelm to restoration. The transformation happens through doing.

  • Grounded in Compassion: Every practice and principle is grounded in self-compassion and mindfulness. We acknowledge real systemic pressures and offer tools that work with your energy, not against it.

  • Restorative: Unlike the type of self-care activities that feel like another task to add, we explore creative practices that reconnect you with your inner resources, restoring balance, joy, and well-being.

  • A Focus on Process, Not Product: This is a space free from comparison and pressure, where you are invited to explore, play, and be messy without any expectations.

  • Led by an Experienced Psychologist and Poet: The program is facilitated by Emily, a psychologist who brings a deep understanding of both the challenges of helping professions and the transformative power of creative and contemplative practices.

  • Intimate, Intentional Community: Cohorts are kept small to create safety, trust, and connection. This is a space to be seen, heard, and supported by peers who get it.

I'm not very creative. Is this program for me?

Absolutely. This program is designed for everyone, especially those who feel disconnected from their creative side or believe they aren't "creative enough." I feel pretty overwhelmed already. Will this add to my to-do list?

We understand completely. The Flourishing Way is designed to be a source of restoration, not another obligation. The practices are intended to nourish your energy, not drain it. Think of it as creating space to breathe rather than adding a task to your list. The aim is to help you find simple, sustainable ways to tend to your well-being.

What if I can't attend all the sessions live?

While live participation offers a lovely sense of community, we know that life happens. Is this therapy?

The Flourishing Way is an educational and community-based program designed to support well-being through creative and contemplative practices. While it is facilitated by a registered psychologist and can be transformative, it is not a substitute for professional therapy, diagnosis, or treatment. It is a space for collective care, personal growth and flourishing.

Will I need to buy a lot of art supplies?

Not at all. The creative invitations are designed to be accessible and can be done with simple materials you likely already have, such as a pen and paper. We will provide a list of optional, easy-to-find supplies if you wish to explore further, but there is no requirement to purchase anything extra.

Can this be a tax-deductible expense or count towards my CPD?

Many participants in health professions are able to claim this program as a tax-deductible expense or for Continuing Professional Development (CPD) hours, as it directly relates to preventing burnout and sustaining professional practice. However, regulations can vary, so we recommend checking with your professional association and accountant to confirm your eligibility. We are happy to provide a certificate of completion upon request.
